BIO

Martin Oberhauser is an award-winning information and interface designer, based in Hamburg, Germany.

During and after his studies at the university of applied sciences in Wurzburg, Martin worked for design studios in Frankfurt, Hamburg and San Francisco. In 2011, Martin then founded his own design studio, Bureau Oberhaeuser. In addition, Martin also had several stints as substitute professor for Information Design at Münster School of Design in the years of 2015 and 2016.

Since starting his career, Martin has worked for clients such as Facebook, Airbnb, Volkswagen, Miele, Deutsche Telekom, Adidas, Audi, BMW, Byton, IPG Mediabrands, Steelcase, Bertelsmann, Tickr and Whoop.

Fueled by his passion for complex data visualization and information design, Martin describes the central idea behind his works as follows: “Information is beautiful and life without information is impossible. But it needs someone to filter the mass of information that surrounds us and turn it into something readable and usable. This is what we do in our work: We create well structured information design that is easy to use and fun to look at.” This led not only to a series of unique and beautiful works, but also resulted in the foundation of Martin’s second company tackl in 2016 that he also manages as CEO. Tackl is a social betting app, set out to disrupt the sports gambling industry.

Interface Design in Times of Information Overflow

Since the age of the mobile web, we are constantly surrounded by huge amounts of information. Nowadays, Interface Design is everywhere and it is often our main way to navigate through all areas of everyday life.

UI & UX Designers have therefore the responsibility to create designs that help the user to make the right decisions and guide him to the best and fastest path. There is a huge dependency on digital tools and a bad user experience can complicate the user’s life dramatically. But that also means that a good user experience can simplify and optimize the way people manage everyday challenges. During his lecture, Martin will explain these design challenges and responsibilities by taking a deeper look at our thinking behind our infotainment concept for Tesla and our Pro-Sport Analytics Platform for Whoop.
